The Sunday Salon – Out of Order

I did something I normally don’t do. I read a series of books out of order. I know, the horror, right. There was this book about two years ago that everyone was excited about. I was trying out NetGalley and requested a copy. I knew it was part of a series but I decided to go with it anyway because it was exactly the type of book I like. Well, about two years later, I’m getting around to starting the series, officially. If you’re curious, it’s Deanna Raybourn’s Lady Julia Grey series. I finished Silent in the Grave this week and I think I may be looking around for the next book for some holiday downtime reading.

In other non-book related news, our tree is decorated and has finally started to look like a tree instead of a large, pine scented bush. I’ve started the holiday baking, presents have been bought, and holiday spiced beer has been drunk. So, why am I not feeling the holidays yet? Hopefully I’ll get into the spirit later this week when all the crazy work stuff is done and holiday parties begin.

Well, I have pierogies to make so I’m off for today. Happy Sunday reading.

    • I think this might be one of those years when it’s just not overwhelming. I’m sure it’ll kick in once we get together with family though. 🙂

  1. Yum. Pierogies.

Years ago, I read Jim Butcher’s Dresden Files out of order. I was just happy to read what I could get my hands on as I got my hands on them. But as the series progressed, I realized that I really did need to read the later ones in order.

    • I’m overly excited about the pierogies this year!

I always feel like I miss so much reading a series out of order so I pretty much never do it, hence the starting at the beginning!

  2. This wasn’t the main point of your post or anything, but I am massively impressed that you are making pierogies. I have found meat pies & variants of meat pies to be way too much work for me to do and more delicious when I buy them from someone who can do them well; people who can do that variety of thing really well at home are like gods to me. :p

    • 🙂 Luckily, I had two friends who agreed to help which made it go by much faster! I like cooking and baking, and if I can talk a few people into joining me in my culinary adventures, it makes it all the more fun.

  3. Sometimes I think I SHOULD read series out of order, just to make myself accept it’s really not the end of the world 😛

I can’t believe Christmas is in a week. It doesn’t feel like it for me either, probably because I’ll be working up to the 24th. I need to find time this week to do some baking/cooking in advance.

    • I was always afraid to do it but now having read a few series out of order and my world has not crashed, I’ve thrown caution to the wind and seem to be reading everything out of order! It’s kind of freeing, even if I go back and find myself reading the books in order after all. 🙂

I still have a bit more baking to do and I’m hoping once I get that out of the way, I’ll start to enjoy the season more. It all moving too fast this year!
